Confident Headphone Mixing of Low Frequencies
This blog from Genelec Chief Technology Officer Aki Mäkivirta discusses the benefits and use of the 'Envelopment' control for improving the understanding and judgement of low-frequency content when using Genelec Aural ID Application software and headphone-based monitoring. While room acoustics strongly influence bass perception when monitoring using loudspeakers, the 'Envelopment' control in Aural ID Application helps reproduce a similar experience for binaural headphone monitoring. This improves mixing confidence when working with low-frequency content, especially when bass audio contains directional elements or out-of-phase information.
